Professor Harry Sumnall is a Professor in Substance Use at the Centre for Public Health, Liverpool John Moores University. He is interested in all aspects of substance use, particularly young people’s health issues.
Professor Harry Sumnall is a Professor in Substance Use at the Centre for Public Health, Liverpool John Moores University. He is interested in all aspects of substance use, particularly young people’s health issues. Harry’s funded research programmes have examined the evidence base for substance misuse prevention and the mechanisms for implementing evidence based practice and policy. He is also interested in the psychopharmacology of entactogens and hallucinogens and the developing field of new psychoactive substances (legal highs). Harry’s funded work with ARUK is examing how young people represent their alcohol use online and how this contributes to identity formation.
Harry is a member of the UK Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs, and President of the European Society for Prevention Research (
