1) Strategy: Models of care for treatment of adult drug misusers (NTA 2006)
‘This update is also set in the context of the NTA’s Treatment Effectiveness strategy, which identifies some of the critical success factors to improving drug treatment…The success factors fall into two main groups: Improving clients’ journeys through treatment, and Improving local drug treatment systems. The strategy is designed to deliver a more dynamic treatment system by focusing on the service user’s “treatment journey”, together with a focus on individuals’ holistic needs (including housing, education and employment) to maximise the benefits of treatment.’ 2) Paper: Pattison, E. The International Treatment Effectiveness Project
The International Treatment Effectiveness Project (ITEP) is part of the National Treatment Agency’s Treatment Effectiveness strategy, which identified areas for enhancing the quality of treatment interventions. The project was a collaboration between the NTA, the Institute of Behavioural Research (IBR) in Texas and several service providers in the north-west England and London.

4) Website: Birmingham Drug Action Team (BTEI)
At the heart of the BTEI programme is a care planning approach that maps service users’ own evaluation of themselves and their treatment needs and goals. Service users, with the help of their drug workers, will explore their own strengths and problems, select their goals and plan their care and treatment. 5) Paper:Marlatt, G. A., Larimer, M.
